I found these two gravestones when looking for interesting color combinations a la Joen Wolfram (recent article in Fabric Trends) who suggests looking for color combinations for quilts by looking at nature (or pictures from nature)
this is a picture of a quilt that was commissioned by my PT employer Riverbend Community Mental Health Center for the Emergency Services Department. They have their office in a house that was built in the 1800's so they wanted something from that period. The embroidered branches of the Canterbury Shaker tree of life were done with my Bernina using a triple stitch with paper for a stabilizer. The director also wanted a picture of me as I have been selected at the NAMI NH mental health clinician of the year. It is not the most flattering as I was not expecting it. I have been growing my hair for Locks of love. Have to have it cut soon as it is so heavy that it is starting to literally hurt!
I like including fun things - gnomes, flamingos, humming bird feeder, chimes, and practical things - I have two tomato plants and plenty of herbs. nature added the yellow jackets last year. they kept attacking me when I would come out to water (and only me - almost as though they could tell who was who). so I would water after dark. we finally found out where their nest entry was - look at the lower left corner below the stone piece - it looks aqua. finally the landlord was convinced and called the exterminator.
I live on the third floor and have window boxes on the floor and on the railing. I have a shelf unit at one end. several window boxes have trellis hung from a nail above and stapled to the rail. morning glories love the light and grow well.
I am a quilter and, to make ends meet, a psychiatric social worker in a prison psychiatric unit. I discovered blogging by logging onto Mary Lou Weidman's blog. I am 54, divorced, have two adult children and two grandchildren. I have a wonderful living-in-sin boyfriend, Bob. I enjoy sewing when I am able to carve out time. Fortunately Bob is not housekeeping compulsive at all. I am counting down to my state retirement age of 60 at which time I can sew and work part time. it is the not quite golden parachute plan:-)
